CLASSROOM POLICY

  • Classwork/Homework

Much of the homework is started as classwork.  This helps to answer some of the questions that might arise at home.  Your work must be done completely and turned in on time to receive full credit.

  • Labs

Each lab grade will take into consideration the effort that is put forth throughout the entire lab, how well directions were followed, and the manner in which the lab was completed.

  • Quizzes

Quizzes will be given after shorter segments of material are completed.  I like to use quizzes to check how well everyone understands the material that is being taught. Quizzes can be a “surprise” or planned.  If you keep up with the material and complete all assignments quizzes should be a grade booster.

  • Tests

Tests will be administered after a unit has been completed.  You will receive no less than a weeks notice before a test.

  • Class Participation

To keep class interesting, I need your help!  I love to hear input on what you think and what you are feeling.  This is also a good way for me to check that you understand what we are talking about.  One phrase that will not work in my classroom is “IDK (I don’t know).”  Give it a try!

  • Projects

Project grades are assigned in advance and will sometimes be completed outside of school and sometimes in school.  Projects sometimes take the place of a written test and are usually worth many points.

  • Science Binders

The binder should contain all of the required pages in order and completed.

  • Science Textbooks

Each student is responsible for their own textbook.  The books must be labeled with your LAST NAME on the book (CLEARLY), and the book should be available whenever necessary.

***Books can be stored in my room on the appropriate shelf when they are not needed; however, they are still YOUR responsibility even in the classroom.

  • Hall Passes

Before you do anything, raise your hand and wait until I call on you.  You will also need your Agenda to leave the room.  Make sure to fill out THE DATE, DESTINATION, and get MY SIGNATURE. ***If I am in the middle of talking, please wait until I am finished!!

  • Make-up Work

Each student will have one day for every day that they missed to make-up work.  It is your responsibility to obtain missed work. You are responsible for seeing to it that you obtain the work you missed on the day you return from the ABSENT BOX.  This should be done at the beginning of the class period.  If the work can’t be made up, (ie. a lab and the specimens have perished or video), the student needs to write the information down and get my signature and place it in their notebook.  Missed notes will need to be copied from a classmate.

  • Late Work

Homework and Labs will be accepted 1 day late for half credit.

Larger projects will be accepted late up to 1 week.  10% of the grade will be taken off per day, after that a zero will be given.

  • Materials List

There are just a couple additional materials that you will need for science class.  They are:

  • 3 Ring Binder
  • Colored Pencils
  • Highlighter
  • Pencils
  • Earbuds
  • Paper Towels
  • Wet Wipes (Clorax/Lysol/Generic)
